Elsa Gallinari, a longtime resident of the Bronx, died on June 12, 2017. She was 97.
Mrs. Gallinari was born on October 1, 1919 in Travo, Piacenza, Italy to the late Antonio and Carmela (Ughini) Gazzola. In 1945 she married Domenico Gallinari. He died on January 21, 1989. She and her son Dante were survivors of the sinking of the Andrea Doria in 1956 when they were emigrating to the United States.
She is survived by her sons, Dante Gallinari and his wife Francesca and Anthony Gallinari and his wife Karen; her grandsons, Michael and Alex Gallinari; and two granddaughters, Christina and Lauren Gallinari.
Visiting will be Thursday 2-4 & 7-9pm at Joseph A. Lucchese Funeral Home, 726 Morris Park Avenue, Bronx. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday 10:30am at St. John the Baptist Church, 670 Yonkers Avenue, Yonkers. Entombment will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery, 280 Secor Road, Hartsdale.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Societá Val Trebbia e Val Nure Scholarship Fund in memory of Elsa Gallinari. These will be noted in their 2018 journal.
